Big Brother 28 officially has its summer launch date, and CBS is treating the next season like a milestone event rather than a routine return.
According to a CBS announcement published through Paramount Press Express, the new season will premiere on Thursday, July 9, 2026, with a special 90-minute episode airing from 8:00-9:30 PM ET/PT. The network is also bringing back Big Brother: Unlocked the following night, Friday, July 10, before another extended Sunday episode on July 12.
Big Brother 28 is being billed as the show’s biggest season yet
The headline for longtime fans is not just the premiere date. CBS says Season 28 will include the most programming hours in the franchise’s history and will carry the series through its landmark 1,000th original episode. That is a rare mark for any primetime series, and it gives this season a built-in celebration point before the houseguests have even moved in.
Julie Chen Moonves is returning as host, keeping the main CBS format familiar: nominations, veto strategy, live evictions and all the social pressure that comes with being watched around the clock. After premiere week, the planned schedule moves into Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday broadcasts, with Wednesday episodes listed as 90-minute shows.
Big Brother: Unlocked is back with a live audience
The companion series Big Brother: Unlocked is also returning for its second summer. CBS describes the show as a place for exclusive house footage, extended interviews, surprise guests and behind-the-scenes material. The new wrinkle this year is a live studio audience, which should make the spin-off feel more reactive to the week’s biggest gameplay moments.
That could matter if Season 28 delivers the kind of early chaos fans expect. Unlocked gives CBS another weekly place to frame the storylines: who is running the house, who is overplaying, and which alliances are already cracking under pressure.

CBS also confirmed that live feeds will continue to be available through Paramount+ and Pluto TV. For a show like Big Brother, that is not a small detail.
